The defendants in the case of a terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge do not admit guilt

All eight defendants who are taking place in the case of a terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge in October 2022 do not admit guilt. This was announced to reporters by lawyer Hasan Rajabov after the end of the first hearing on the merits, which was closed in the Southern District Military Court.

All eight defendants do not admit guilt— said Rajabov.

He clarified that lawyers insisted on open consideration of the case, but by decision of the court it will continue to be considered closed.

Earlier, the judge announced that the documents received in the court have the vulture “for official use”, so he made the decision to close the process for discussion with the state prosecutor and defenders of the defendants.

According to investigators, the first deputy chairman of the SBU Vasily Malyuk and unidentified persons for the attack on the Crimean bridge in 2022 created an organized criminal group, which included the accused and other persons. Malyuk, along with accomplices, organized the manufacture of explosives in Ukraine, disguised as a load of plastic construction film. Then the members of the criminal group delivered him to the Crimean bridge on a truck under the control of a man who did not know about their plans.

On October 8, 2022, when a truck traveling along the bridge, the accomplices led an explosive device. As a result of the explosion, the driver and four more people who were in a passenger car driving near the truck died.

About the defendants

The attack is accused of Artyom Avyatyan, George Avytyan, Oleg Antipov, Alexander Bylin, Vladimir Anger, Dmitry Heavy, Roman Solomko and Arthur Terchanyan. The case was initiated in their regard under Part 3 of Art. 205 of the Criminal Code (terrorist act), part 4 of Art. 222.1 of the Criminal Code (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, shipping or wearing of explosives or explosive devices). In addition, Solomko and Terchanyan were charged under Part 3 of Art. 226.1 of the Criminal Code (smuggling of explosive devices). The investigation in the case in relation to Malyuk continues.
