CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Sevastopol, the police completed a preliminary investigation into a criminal case of traffic violations that resulted in the death of an elderly woman.

The investigator of the Investigative Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Sevastopol completed the preliminary investigation of the criminal case under Part 3 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Violation of traffic rules and operation of vehicles, resulting in the death of a person through negligence.” According to investigators, in September last year, a 35-year-old driver, driving a PAZ shuttle bus with about 30 passengers, hit a 75-year-old woman who was crossing the road in front of a vehicle outside a pedestrian crossing. The tragic incident occurred after passengers were disembarking and alighting at the public transport stop “Pozharova Street”, when the carrier began moving towards Vosstantshikh Square, without first ensuring the safety of his maneuver and violating a number of traffic rules of the Russian Federation— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.

Immediately after the accident, the victim was taken to a medical facility, where, despite the assistance provided, she died from her injuries. The check showed that the driver was sober at the time of the accident.

As part of the investigation into the criminal case, eyewitnesses of the road accident were interviewed, forensic, auto technical, comprehensive video technical examination, as well as other studies were appointed and carried out.

The accused did not admit his guilt, explaining that he was convinced of the safety of the maneuver before starting the movement. However, the collected evidence, including a videogram of the circumstances of the accident recorded by the video recorder, refute his testimonynoted the Sevastopol police.

Currently, the materials of the criminal case have been sent to the prosecutor’s office of the city of Sevastopol for approval of the indictment. The sanction of the incriminated article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to five years.
