The exhibition “Fortresses of the World on Banknotes” opened in Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
At 41 exhibition stands there are about a hundred original banknotes from different countries of the world: Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bahrain, the Republic of Belarus, Hungary, Haiti, Germany, Greece, Dominican Republic, Israel, Jordan, Iraq, China, Cuba, Yemen, Libya, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Transnistria, Peru, Russia, Serbian Krajina, Slovakia, Syria, Turkey, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Scotland, Yugoslavia.
The stands contain authentic banknotes and information about the fortresses depicted on them. In addition, the display cases contain notgelds — temporary money or emergency money, issued for circulation by non-governmental organizations in the period from 1914 to 1924 in Germany and Austria in connection with the crisis and hyperinflation. The display cases also display keys to fortresses, door locks and caskets discovered in Crimea. Antique iron keys and locks of various shapes, dating from the 2nd to 15th centuries, add a special flavor to the atmosphere of the exhibition— said «Sevastopol newspaper» and about. Head of the Educational Department of the Military Historical Museum of Fortifications, senior researcher Elena Konoplyannik.
According to her, the mission of the exhibition is to draw the attention of the state and the public to the crumbling architectural and fortification structures in our country.
I would like to believe that one day, for example, the building of the Mikhailovskaya Battery Museum will also be depicted on a banknotenotes E. Konoplyannik.
The idea of creating an exhibition about fortresses on banknotes did not arise suddenly. Several years ago, collector V. Dyakov, together with the Sudak Fortress museum-reserve, organized the exhibition “Money of the White Guard” for the 100th anniversary of the exodus of the White Guard, then for the 100th anniversary of the creation of the USSR — the exhibition “Currency Notes of the USSR”. Both of them were a success with the audience. The third exhibition was called “Fortresses of the World on Banknotes.” According to V. Dyakov, he proposed this topic as a sign of gratitude for his friendship with the fortress-museum. Now it is exhibited in Sevastopol.
The exhibition begins with stands with Russian money. This is White Guard money issued in 1918. Here we see nostalgia for Moscow. By the way, money was printed in Feodosia, which is important and interesting for collectors. The series of money is called “Campaign on Moscow”says the author of the collection, smiles and quotes the poet Vladimir Mayakovsky, “The earth, as we know, begins from the Kremlin.”
We know that the White Guards did not reach Moscow, and were then driven out to Crimea, but banknotes with the image of Moscow remained. Also on display are Russian money from 1923, 1947, and 1961. They mainly depict the towers and walls of the Moscow Kremlin, and only on the five-ruble banknote of 1997 — the walls of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. All other stands display the money of the countries of the world and their remarkable fortresses.
It is important to note that most of the fortifications: fortresses, castles, towers, gates, forts depicted on banknotes are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Money reflects the history of each country in its own way. Unsurpassed design and artistic diversity, relevance of the theme, historical and cultural value make these exhibited banknotes genuine monuments of world history of the 20th-21st centuries.
The exhibition will run in the halls of the Mikhailovskaya Battery Museum until May 12.
