On September 22 at 14:00, as part of the XIV Slavic Forum of Fine Arts (SFAI) “Golden Knight”, an exhibition of the outstanding Arkhangelsk painter Sergei Syukhin will open in the small hall of the Byzantine exposition of the museum-reserve! Last year, he already presented his works in Tauride Chersonese, but, inspired, he decided to once again introduce the people of Sevastopol to the culture and traditions of the Russian North.

Exhibition “From the White to the Black Sea. Gates of Memory» is, on the one hand, the world of the artist, and on the other, the history of time in symbolic images. Behind the external laconicism and asceticism of the colors of Sergei Syukhin’s paintings are the fates of the entire people: from the White Sea in the endless north to the Black Sea coast in the south— said the head of the exhibition department of the museum-reserve P. N. Khlebovsky.

From September 22 to October 22 in Tauride Chersonese you can see more than 20 works of the famous Arkhangelsk artist for free. Among them are easel graphics, illustrations for the works of northern writers, portraits, and genre paintings. As if emphasizing the age-old, natural essence of the soul of the Russian person, Sergei Syukhin included some paintings in original gate leaves from a collection carefully collected over many years. Through them, the inhabitants of the North once entered their ancestral home.

The gates of memory are that very important, connecting sacred thread that, in the continuous movement of history, leaves a deep imprint in the souls of grandfathers and grandchildren, this is how the artist himself describes his work and the idea of ​​the exhibition in the museum-reserve.

Black and white and color, funny and sad, fairy-tale and achingly realistic, serious and inspiring… Sergei Syukhin’s paintings, still unknown and already loved by Sevastopol residents, will very soon be seen in the small hall of the Byzantine exposition of Tauric Chersonese!
