The exhibition «Golgotha of Russia» was presented in Yevpatoria
Krympress reports:
In the St. Nicholas Cathedral, the historical and documentary exhibition “Calvary of Russia” was opened. She introduces a unique military necropolis in Sevastopol — a fraternal cemetery. In Yevpatoria, the exposition is held as part of events dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the battle for the city of Russian troops under the command of General Stepan Khrilev, one of the main characters of the Crimean war.
Its author is a member of the Union of Russian Journalists Anastasia Kuznetsova. The exhibition was prepared jointly with the chairman of the Sevastopol Union of Journalists, captain of the 1st rank of reserve Sergey Gorbachev.
The archival pictures capture the main events of the history of the military necropolis established by decree of Vice Admiral Vladimir Kornilov.
The name of the exhibition is no coincidence. In the form of Calvary over the fraternal cemetery in 1870, an Easter temple was built in honor of St. Nicholas as the main monument to all those who fell in the Crimean war and during the first defense of Sevastopol— said Anastasia Kuznetsova.
In addition, she added that the exposition reflects the connection of Yevpatoria and Sevastopol. One of the exhibition stands is dedicated to two Evpatoria monuments — the monument to the Russian soldiers established by Karaim on the grave of soldiers who fell during the assault on the city of February 5 (17), 1855 during the Crimean War, as well as the monument to the Evpatoria landing.
Evpatoria and the Sevastopol Bratsk cemetery connects not only the immortal name of General Stepan Khrulev. The Great Patriotic War forever connected two main temples in honor of St. Nicholas, in Yevpatoria and on the Sevastopol Brotherly necropolis. Immediately after the end of the second assault on Sevastopol, on January 4, 1942, 76 people from the remnants of the 8th brigade of the Black Sea Fleet Marine Corps were seconded to form a “special landing company”-they became participants in the legendary Evpatoria landing. Shortly before that, in the hardest battle for the 30th coastal battery, December 28, 1941, these fighters spent several hours in positions, concentrating in the Bratskoye cemetery area— explained Anastasia Kuznetsova.
The exhibition will work until February 22.
REFERENCE. On February 5 (17), 1855, having received an order to storm Yevpatoriya, Stepan Khrilev destroyed twice as many enemy soldiers and officers, attacking half as much forces. Having retreated, he managed to preserve the Russian army from vain losses. In March 1855, he was appointed the head of the 3.4 and 5 departments of the defensive line and the commandant of the ship side of Sevastopol.
Khrulev had the glory of the “soldier” general and for the concern for subordinates received the nickname “prospector”. Among his exploits is the famous battle for the battery of Zherva.
In 1870, Stepan Khrulev was buried according to his will at the fraternal cemetery in Sevastopol, writing at the monument: «Twist, brothers, I will lie down with you.»
