The exhibition of the Crimean artist Pavel Matveev was presented in Simferopol
Krympress reports:
On August 8, the exposition of the colorful Crimean artist Pavel Matveev was opened in the Caucasf art gallery. Pavel was born in Alushta in 1973, studied at a children’s art school. He is an artist in the third generation. Under the leadership of his father, artist Grigory Matveev, he painted academic still lifes. He studied at the Crimean Art College named after N.S. Samokisha. The talent of Pavel Matveev was noted by the Crimean art critic Rudolf Smofali (1938–2008), Deputy Director for the Scientific Work of the Simferopol Art Museum.
Paul’s works are interesting for their unusual compositions filled with metaphors and mythology. The exhibition presents the fresh work of the artist, on which, according to the author, «the paint has not yet dried up.» All presented works by common metaphysics are combined. The central picture of the exposition was the image of the “Secret Party” — the last meal of Jesus Christ with his twelve closest disciples. Artists have repeatedly addressed this plot and eternal images: Leonardo da Vinci, Tintoretto, Nikolai Ge, Ivan Repin, and our Crimean painter Pavel Matveev painted a picture in the form of a rhombus, which additionally attracted the attention of guests to it.
The avant -garde painting of Pavel Matveev reflects the impressions of reality experienced by the author, creates a special artistic space filled with stylized forms of plants, birds, animals and people. One of the paintings of the exposition depicts outlandish flowers that reminded visitors of the exhibition of plants from the cartoon «The Secret of the Third Planet», the other picture shows the Crimean mountain landscape with bright colors of the blue man (the people of the Chertonogona).
Paul himself considers himself an artist who writes primitivism in the genre. The early, original, primitive, naive art is called primitive. It is devoid of criticality, the rational principle of the composition, associated with the personnel stage of artistic thinking. The most famous representatives of primitivism: Henri Russo, Nico Pirosmani, and now we know the Crimean artist, a representative of this direction.
Paul says that his paintings are mystical, that his essence is reflected in them: “There is no need to turn artistic art into a theater! For me, art is a dialogue with the world. In each work there is what I want to say to people. They reflect my essence. ”
Until September 5, 2025, the exhibition will be available for visiting for free, during the working hours of the Caucasur Gallery. Address: Simferopol, st. Sevastopolskaya 31a/2.
