The exhibition «Revival of Sevastopol» will open on July 19 in the retro cinema «Ukraine». The organizers, reports «Sevastopolskaya Gazeta»dedicated the exhibition to the 80th anniversary of the start of post-war reconstruction work in Sevastopol. At that time, the city was 98% destroyed, with 5,379 of the 6,402 residential buildings destroyed.
The piers, railway lines, tunnels, water supply systems, power plants, bakeries, communication lines, schools, hospitals, museums, cultural and historical monuments lay in ruins.
The exhibition will feature unique photographs of the destroyed city, taken by TASS photojournalist Yevgeny Khaldey, photojournalist for the Krasny Chernomorets newspaper Aleksandr Sokolenko, and front-line cameraman Vladislav Mikosha, who fought in the Great Patriotic War.
The photographs tell the story of how the white-stone beauty of Sevastopol rose from an almost completely destroyed city. The exhibition also includes exhibits telling the story of the labor feat of the workers of the Sevmorzavod, personal belongings of the artists restoring the Sevastopol Panorama, etc.
The exhibition opens on July 19 at 4:00 p.m. and will run until September 15.
