The guests toured the exhibition in the main hall, the exhibition spaces on the second floor, the workshop, the artist’s study and three formal living rooms, new museum equipment that allows one to present the work of an outstanding artist in all its splendor and creates conditions for storing and ensuring the safety of works.
Repair and restoration work at the site was carried out within the framework of the state program of the Russian Federation “Socio-economic development of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol”. Their total cost was about 870 million rubles.
Museum visitors are presented with a lobby, three living rooms, Ivan Aivazovsky’s study, his workshop, and a balcony above the main hall. The gallery’s collection contains 416 reference works of painting and drawing by the great Russian artist — this is the largest collection of his authorship in the world.
Sergei Aksenov emphasized that the implementation of such a large-scale project became possible thanks to the support and decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This gallery is a landmark object both for the residents of the city of Feodosia, whose history is connected with the name of Ivan Aivazovsky, and for our entire large country. The works of art presented here are priceless national treasures that arouse admiration even for a person who has little knowledge of painting.said the Head of Crimea.
As noted by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Crimea Tatyana Manezhina, today Crimeans and guests of the city of military glory Feodosia can again enjoy the amazing work of Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky, the great Russian marine painter, a world-famous talent.
After the significant event — the reunification of Crimea with Russia, on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, within the framework of the federal target program, repair and restoration work was carried out in the house of the Crimean artistic genius, as well as the exhibition was significantly updated and expanded, and modern equipment was installed.
Nikita Mikhalkov congratulated all Crimeans on the 10th anniversary of the reunification of Crimea with Russia. In his opinion, not everyone understands the enormous significance of what happened.
Crimea is a sacred thing for Russia and a tasty morsel for everyone else. I think it is very symbolic that the house-museum of Ivan Aivazovsky, a brilliant Russian artist of Armenian origin, is located in Crimea, where different peoples have always gathered and lived. But most of all, it was Russian blood that was shed here. Crimea has always been, is and will remain Russian,” emphasized the People’s Artist of the RSFSR.
According to Vladimir Konstantinov, fantastic changes have occurred in Crimea over the past ten years, including in the cultural sphere. The Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea believes that institutions like the Aivazovsky art gallery give birth to the Russian spirit and the Russian person in the broadest sense.
Konstantin Zatulin also delivered a welcoming speech and congratulated the Crimeans on the 10th anniversary of the Crimean Spring.
The Feodosia Gallery named after Ivan Aivazovsky is the first public art gallery in the south of the country. The building of the institution was built according to the artist’s design in the middle of the 19th century and is an architectural monument. Today the museum’s collection includes more than 14 thousand exhibits and works of painting, graphics, archival documents, memorial items belonging to the Aivazovsky family, his contemporaries, students, Western European marine painters, and artists of the south-eastern Crimea.
The opening ceremony was accompanied by a concert program of the Chamber Orchestra (artistic director and conductor Mikhail Serbinenko), soloists of the Crimean State Philharmonic.
The memorial hall displayed the works of students of children’s art schools in Crimea — winners of the competition to complete the unfinished last painting by I. Aivazovsky, “The Explosion of the Ship.”
