The first results of the program to create the interior decoration of the temple were presented at the Meganom Academy
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On December 23, the third module of the educational program was completed at the Academy of Creative Industries «Meganom» (project «Tavrida.ART»), where young craftsmen are working on the design of the interior decoration of the church-chapel in the name of St. Great Martyr George the Victorious, construction of which is already underway in Kapsel Bay in Crimea.
From November 8 to December 23 at the Meganom Academy of Creative Industries» passed an educational program where artists, icon painters, restorers, mosaicists and muralists, together with experts, worked on sketches of paintings, selection of images for the iconostasis, and creation of sketches of decorative elements of the church decoration. As part of the program, participants listened to lectures on the history of icon painting and Orthodoxy in Russia, met with prominent representatives of church monumental art, artists and art historians, and also traveled to the holy places of Crimea.
Speaking about the painting of the temple, it is necessary to mention the most important qualities of the Russian icon — this is a special spirituality, reverence, chastity in the literal and figurative sense, when the icon painter avoids immodest introduction into those areas and topics that can raise unnecessary questions and emotions, which in particular is manifested in the depiction of the crucified Christ — unlike Western art, in the Russian icon there is no “savoring” of his suffering, in our tradition he retains his dignity even on the cross and evokes not pity, but admiration and gratitude for his feat— says Natalya Bitsadze, professor of RAZhViZ I. Glazunova.
The educational process was divided into three modules: November 8–25; November 27 – December 9; December 11–23. The next module will start next year in February.
Participants in the first module created 5 sketches for painting the northern wall of the church-chapel, and also worked out in detail individual elements of the sketches. Each version contains 3 scenes from the life of St. George the Victorious, and the central scene represents the miracle of St. George about the serpent.
Participants in the second module created sketches of the general painting of the interior walls of the temple, individual elements of its interior decoration, such as the baptistery with mosaic decoration and the white stone iconostasis. The result of the group work of the participants was a model of the temple itself and a version of the general painting of the internal walls placed on it.
Participants in the third module developed options for painting the walls of the main part of the temple, making sketches with different color schemes, and also selected separate scenes for each part of it. A 3D model of the temple and one of the iconostasis options with various options for its ornamental design were developed.
The curator of the program is Maria-Nicole Selivanova, head of the Tavrida art park, artist-restorer of easel and monumental painting.
The experts of the program were the icon painter, author of the preliminary design for the painting, Alexey Paromov; icon painter, member of the Union of Artists of Russia Sergei Smirnov; muralist, icon painter Alexander Tsypkov; specialist of the Synodal Department for Youth Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church, Deacon Evgeny Esaulenko; Professor of RAZhVIZ I. Glazunova Natalya Bitsadze; researcher at the Moscow Kremlin Museums Svetlana Trofimova; war correspondent Alexandra Trofimova; general producer of the festival of contemporary church art “See and Hear”, president of the ANO “Center for the Promotion of Church Art”, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Dmitry Trofimov.
Temple-chapel in the name of St. The Great Martyr George the Victorious in Kapsel Bay is the first experience of the Tavrida art cluster in the construction of religious buildings. The investment project is being implemented by philanthropist and temple builder Alexei Kakhidze with the support of Tavrida and in partnership with the Synodal Department for Youth Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church. Completion of the first stage of construction is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. In the future, when investment proposals are received, cultural objects of other Russian religions may appear on the territory of the art cluster.
