Today, guys from all over the country arrived in Tauric Chersonesos to help the museum-reserve become even better. Despite the fact that the volunteers had to endure a long, exhausting road, at the opening, each of them got acquainted with the program of events with interest.
Chersonesos is a modern museum, one of the largest archaeological bases in our country and a unique monument with a history of several thousand years. On the program, you will come into contact with archeology, restoration and excursion activities, and most importantly, you will be imbued with the life of the museum, which is one of the best in the country. After the grand opening, the employees of the museum-reserve held an interactive lesson “Korsun legend” for volunteers. On it, young people learned what path Prince Vladimir had traveled on the way to baptism and about the great significance of the Orthodox faith for our people.
This season, the volunteers of the project will take part in excavations at St. Vladimir’s Cathedral in the museum-reserve and in work on its restoration, in the office processing of material obtained as a result of archaeological research in the southern suburbs of Chersonesos, as well as in the improvement of the territory of the unique objects of the choir ancient city.
15 volunteers will take part in the first shift of the project. A total of races are planned, three of which are provided for Crimeans and Sevastopol residents. Last year, more than 15 volunteers took part in the program. The guys from regions of Russia were able to join several large archaeological expeditions, including on the territory of the southern suburbs of Tauric Chersonesos. We hope that this season will give the participants no less positive emotions and new knowledge.
The project is being implemented in the Tauric Chersonesos Museum-Reserve with the support of the My History Foundation using a grant provided by the All-Russian Public-State Organization “Russian Fund of Culture” within the framework of the “Volunteers of Culture” program of the federal project “Creative People” of the national project “Culture” with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
