The grand opening of the festival of opera and ballet took place in Chersonesos
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The VI International Festival of Opera and Ballet «Chersonese» has started on the territory of the museum-reserve «Tauric Chersonesos». This year, for the first time, the Mikhailovsky Theater presents Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet choreographed by Nacho Duato.
At the beginning of the opening ceremony of the festival, Governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev read out the greetings of the President of the Russian Federation to the participants, organizers and guests of the event:
Dear friends! I greet you and congratulate you on the opening of the VI International Festival of Opera and Ballet «Khersonesos». It is gratifying that your wonderful project has received a permanent “creative registration” in the Tauric Chersonese Museum-Reserve, and the historical monuments of the ancient city have been serving as grandiose, unique scenery for classical opera and ballet performances for several years. I am sure that the current festival program will fully meet the expectations of the most demanding audience, give everyone the joy of meeting real art, and leave vivid, unforgettable impressions.
Also, the governor of Sevastopol noted the importance and timeliness of the festival in Khersones.
Art above all. This speaks of the strength of our country, of the strength of our character. The festival is held under the patronage of President Vladimir Putin, and it is the sixth time it has been held in Sevastopol. To any sanctions, to any attempts to “cancel Russia,” we here in Sevastopol say how strong our country is and how great its potential is , Mikhail Razvozhaev emphasized.
The organizers of the festival also talk about the creative potential and significance of art, continuity.
Indeed, it is good that there is such continuity that we hold these festivals here on an open stage, we build this stage every year and understand that when the cultural cluster is completed, it will go to the Opera and Ballet Theatre. The format will be preserved, but in a new reading and in a new building. Certainly, of course, the best choreography schools from all over Russia will come here traditionally to Sevastopol. Therefore, the main thing is such continuity and transfer of this experience and the already developed concept , — the president of Vision Media Center LLC Natalia Popova expressed the general opinion of the organizers of the festival.
The festival opened with Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet (choreography by Nacho Duato).
The music of Sergei Prokofiev is commonly called the best ballet score of the 20th century. Thanks to the international creative team: the Spanish choreographer Nacho Duato, the artist from Iraq Jaffar Chalabi, the costume designer from Serbia Angelina Atlagic, music has once again received a bright embodiment. Today the title roles in Romeo and Juliet are performed by the leading soloists of the Mikhailovsky Theatre: Viktor Lebedev and Anastasia Soboleva,” said Alexei Lebedev, director of the Russian Seasons project.
This year, the participants of the Khersones festival will have an extended program. The Opera and Ballet Festival will run until 7 August. Tickets for Romeo and Juliet are still on sale. Further, the Moscow theater of Oleg Tabakov will perform on the stage in the ancient city, which will present the play «Sailor’s Silence» with Vladimir Mashkov. Tours of the capital theater in Sevastopol will be held from 11 to 11 August. The festival program can be found on the official website: inter-fest.ru.
