The harsh truth about Sevastopol's water supply
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Today – without optimistic promises and unrealistic schedules for water supply. The situation with water supply in Sevastopol is more than serious. On the verge of a state of emergency. Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev put everything on the shelves. The picture is not very happy, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Causes.
A lot of snow fell, and literally within a day it melted. There was a sharp influx of dirty water from the mountains into the Chernaya River, and groundwater rose. The indicators were exceeded almost hundreds of times. The last time a similar natural situation occurred in Sevastopol was in the 70s.
Consequences.
Due to the rise of rivers and mudflows, the level of water turbidity has sharply increased: if normally the suspended matter is 1.5 mg per liter, now it has increased to 58 mg per liter. That is, the water has become almost 60 times dirtier. With such turbidity of water, the rate of water treatment sharply deteriorates. That is why water intakes in the city are being stopped and systems are being cleaned.
What is being done to solve the problem.
The water supply scheme in Sevastopol is secret and one of the most complex in the country due to the terrain. There are high-pressure, medium-pressure, and gravity water pipelines. On one street there may be all three types of water pipelines, so with periodic water supply, water will reach one house, but not another. To fill the entire system to 120 thousand cubic meters, and for the water to reach everyone, it takes more than 50 hours. We made a decision: there will be no water until 9 am tomorrow. On Tuesday morning, water will be supplied from 9:00 to 11:00. It may not reach some houses — for the reason I described abovesaid Mikhail Razvozhaev.
So, tomorrow, if the lucky ones will have water, it will only be from 9:00 to 11:00.
Next is the most unpleasant information.
There will be no water from 11:00 January 23 until 20:00 Wednesday, January 24. This forced shutdown of the system, necessary for the accumulation and sanitary purification of water, will allow us to provide water as normal on the evening of January 24th. If we continue to supply water periodically, the process may drag on for a week or more. I ask everyone to treat the situation with understanding. Everyone who can should stock up on water. Vodokanal was instructed to once again work out the logistics of supplying water to residential buildingsRazvozhaev emphasized.
The situation is serious. It also requires serious measures. They are accepted. There are many complaints regarding the supply of water by Sevgorvodokanal vehicles. But don’t shoot at the pianist here, he plays as best he can. All equipment is involved. Imported water literally “scatters”.
Today a shortened working day was announced in Sevastopol. Tuesday and Wednesday are official days off. Only duty groups will work in kindergartens. Emergency services are all operating as normal.
The Department of Municipal Economy of Sevastopol today entered into an agreement with the Vodogray company. From 8 am on Tuesday, January 23, 14 points will be available where you can collect any required amount of water.
I anticipate questions about the fact that there are many more “Vodograi” points in the city. Let me explain: 14 points are those that can operate all day long until late in the evening on rechargeable batteries. Vodogray must ensure that there is always water in themexplained the head of the city.
According to Razvozhaev, the government of Sevastopol bears all expenses.
BUT! You will still need a coin (at least one)!
An important nuance: technically, the machines are reprogrammed at night so that to get water you can put any coin into them, starting from 1 ruble. Without a coin, the machines do not work. However, I repeat, for a ruble you can get the amount of water you need — 5, 10, 20 liters, and so on,” Mikhail Razvozhaev clarified.
List of addresses of water machines:
- pr. gen. Ostryakova, 1,
- pr. gen. Ostryakova, 143,
- pr. gen. Ostryakova, 178,
- st. Novorossiyskaya, 56,
- st. Generala Petrova, 10,
- st. Shchorsa, 2,
- st. Communist, 38,
- st. Pionerskaya/Korsunskaya,

Also, the Department of Natural Resources of Sevastopol is now negotiating with 26 gardening partnerships that have their own wells with technical water, so that they also let everyone in to collect water. The city bears all costs. Additional information with addresses and names of STs will be published in account Vodokanal, where water supply schedules are now published.
January 24 — we expect that by this time the water supply will be fully restored. Once again I ask everyone to be patient,” the governor addressed the Sevastopol residents.
