The head of the department of one of the Sevastopol universities was charged with taking bribes from students
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, a criminal case has been initiated and is being investigated related to corruption in one of the departments of the Sevastopol university. According to an official statement, a criminal case was initiated against the head of the department, who was charged with taking bribes for illegal actions (part 3 of article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
According to investigators, from December 2022 until March of this year, the associate professor offered senior students of correspondence courses help in writing their theses and defending them, as well as giving positive marks without actually passing the discipline in exchange for bribes that ranged from 20 up to 130 thousand rubles.
Specialists of the UEBiPK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Sevastopol and the service of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol quickly identified and stopped the illegal actions of the associate professor, which made it possible to bring her to criminal responsibility.
In the course of the investigation conducted by the employees of the investigative department, searches were carried out both at the workplace and in the living quarters of the teacher. During the searches, money, computer equipment, other documents and items that are of interest to the investigation and can serve as evidence of criminal activity were seized.
Currently, the investigation continues its work and conducts a number of additional checks aimed at identifying possible other similar illegal actions on the part of the associate professor. Also, an important aspect of the investigation will be the legal assessment of the actions of part-time students who were bribers.
This incident was a major disappointment for the educational institution and the student community. The investigating authorities intend to conduct a thorough investigation and punish all those responsible to the full extent of the law. Corruption in university departments has a negative impact on the educational process, and its eradication remains one of the priorities of law enforcement agencies.
