On the eve of the Day of Memory and Sorrow — June 22, the Crimean parliamentarians supported in two readings a bill on awarding the village of Ishun, Krasnoperekopsky district, the honorary title «Settlement of military prowess», introduced by the Head of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov.

The document was adopted in order to perpetuate the memory of those who died defending the Fatherland during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, to preserve the military historical heritage and patriotic education.

Speaking about the importance of the adopted law, Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov emphasized the significance of the historical events that took place on the Ishun land, as well as the courage and heroism shown by the defenders of the village and the personnel of military units in the battles on the Perekop Isthmus during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. .

REFERENCE: The village of Ishun, Krasnoperekopsky district, founded in the 18th century, has a rich history, including that associated with military prowess, since at all times the Ishun positions were an outpost at the entrance to the Crimea and played an important strategic and geopolitical role. For the first time, fortifications here were erected during the Crimean War of 1853-1856 under the leadership of the Russian engineer-general E.I. Totleben. The Ishun positions became widely known during the Civil War of 1918-1920, the defensive battles of 1941 and the liberation battles of 1944. After the liberation of Crimea, 10 formations of the 2nd Guards Army were given the name «Perekop» and 17 units of the 51st Army — the name «Sivash». For the feats committed on the Perekop land, 28 people were awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union. In the 24 mass graves of the Krasnoperekopsky district, the ashes of the defenders of the Fatherland, who fell during fierce battles on the Perekop Isthmus of Crimea, rest.
