The International Youth Ecological Scientific School “Sevan” opened in Sevastopol

The opening ceremony of the International Youth Ecological Scientific School “Sevan” took place at Northern State University. The event takes place at Sevastopol State University until November 26. The school brought together about 50 students from Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Transnistria and the CIS countries.

The main goal of the school is to popularize science. The organizers paid special attention to environmental problems and the study of the Black Sea coast. Leading experts in the field of molecular and cellular biophysics, genetics, programming and robotics will talk about complex things. The educational program includes lectures and master classes related to the study of marine waters and coastal areas. Students will be able to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice: as part of the project, participants will conduct environmental research using modern equipment from SevSU. The main event of the school will be a master class on the research vessel “Pioneer-M”. Participants will gain experience working with hydroacoustic equipment and remote-controlled underwater vehicles in the Black Sea.

Science and scientific research are key components of Russia’s national sovereignty. The Sevan school is one of the tools through which our state popularizes scientific activities. For the first time, we managed to win a large-scale grant competition organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, – the press service of the university quotes the vice-rector for scientific activities of Sevastopol State University Maxim Evstigneev.

School participants note that such a level of laboratory equipment does not exist in their countries. The professional competencies that a student receives at SevSU will correspond to world standards. While studying in some educational programs, a student can already try himself in a future workplace.

Now we are gaining new knowledge that we will apply in our country. We are planning to hold a large environmental conference, in which all ecologists from Transnistria will take part in order to share their experience and their best practices., – says Kirill Pakulich, a school participant, a fourth-year student at the Pridnestrovian State University.

The International Youth Ecological Scientific School “Sevan” is included in the line of events of the winning project “I All-Russian Festival with International Participation “Sea of ​​Scientific Opportunities”, as well as for the purpose of implementing the federal project “Popularization of Science and Technology” of the state program of the Russian Federation “Scientific and Technological Development Russian Federation».
