The International Youth Ecological Scientific School “Sevan” was held in Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
From November 21 to 26, the Sevan Scientific School was held at the Sevastopol State University. The event brought together about 50 students from friendly countries and several thousand online participants. Young scientists from Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Transnistria and the CIS countries, despite sanctions against Russia, came to Sevastopol to study the Black Sea and coastal areas.
The Sevan school combines biology, physics, chemistry, engineering and biology. Participants got acquainted with the most striking research areas of Sevastopol State University. For several days, lectures and practical classes were given to them by the leaders of scientific projects of SevSU, and the classes were held on the basis of the recently opened building of the Institute for Advanced Research. The organizers divided the educational program into lecture and practical parts. The main event of the school was the master class “Interdisciplinary remote methods for studying the coastal zone: working with hydroacoustic equipment, remote-controlled underwater vehicles.” The participants tried their hand at exploring the marine area on the basis of the research vessel “Pioneer-M” in Kamyshovaya Bay of Sevastopol.
This school is unprecedented because it is being implemented within the framework of the country’s largest popular science project, “Sea of Scientific Opportunities,” which won the grant competition of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The participants are completely open to the perception of new knowledge, new emotions, despite the political situation around our state. We showed young scientists the potential of Sevastopol State University and introduced them to the most exciting research projects that their peers are currently working on together with senior mentors, – quoted by the university press service Vice-Rector for Scientific Activities of Sevastopol State University Maxim Evstigneev.
Today Sevastopol State University offers applicants a number of flagship master’s degrees, where a student can try his hand at a future job while studying at a university. Among the partners of SevSU are all the institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and other major scientific organizations of our country. This will allow young scientists to gain the necessary experience for large research projects earlier. During their studies, students use the scientific base and specialized equipment of SevSU and receive competencies that correspond to, and in some areas exceed, the world level.
In Transnistria there is no such equipment as there is in Sevastopol. I am interested in the innovative research methods that are used here, so we will hold a large conference and share the knowledge that we have gained within the school. We further plan to cooperate with Sevastopol State University, because we are united not only by the scientific potential of the territory, but also by a common history from the beginning of the first century ADsays a school participant, a fourth-year student at the Pridnestrovian State University, Kirill Pakulich.
In addition to the educational program, a number of cultural events were held for the participants of the Sevan school. Young scientists got acquainted with the history of Sevastopol and the defense of the hero city during the Great Patriotic War. The students were given an excursion to the Museum Historical and Memorial Complex “35th Coastal Battery,” and the most interesting facts about the defense of Sevastopol were told by the director of the complex, Valery Volodin. Participants of the event visited the Lunacharsky Theater for a screening of the play “Three Sisters”. They were especially impressed by the interior decoration and the skill of the actors, and the chief director of the theater, Grigory Lifanov, answered all their questions.
There is a very high level of education, teaching staff, instruments and laboratories. Everything is at the highest level and this delights the scientist, draws him into study and experimentation in these laboratories,” notes school participant, student from Egypt Yasmin Hassan.
The International Youth Ecological Scientific School “Sevan” is included in the line of events of the winning project “I All-Russian Festival with International Participation “Sea of Scientific Opportunities”, as well as for the purpose of implementing the federal project “Popularization of Science and Technology” of the state program of the Russian Federation “Scientific and Technological Development Russian Federation».
