The Kerch seaport will deepen the bottom to accommodate ships with a deeper draft

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Dredging work at the berths and approach channels in the Kerch seaport will be carried out in 2025, which will make it possible to accept vessels of greater draft. About this TASS reported the press service of the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot).

At the beginning of 2024, the plenipotentiary representative of the Russian President in the Southern Federal District, Vladimir Ustinov, reported that until 2026 inclusive, more than 900 million rubles would be allocated for the construction of port infrastructure facilities in Crimea and Sevastopol.

In the seaport of Kerch, work will be carried out on current and major repairs, modernization and reconstruction of navigation aids and navigation safety systems. Project documentation is being developed for dredging work planned for 2025 — reported the press service.

It is noted that it is necessary to bring the depths at the berths and on the approach channels to the design 8 m. This will allow the reception and processing of ships with a higher draft at the berths of the Kerch port, which will lead to a more efficient use of port capacities.

In addition, it is planned to reconstruct the berths, update the fleet of transshipment equipment and equipment, and build additional closed storage facilities in the seaport of Feodosia.

In the seaport of Sevastopol for the period until 2027, a set of measures will be carried out to repair and restore the fleet, buildings and structures, as well as to update production mechanization equipment.

About the ports of Crimea

The ports of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol are capable of receiving various types of ships and providing transshipment of diverse cargo, however, they are not loaded at full capacity due to sanctions imposed by a number of countries on enterprises operating on the Crimean peninsula and their partners. Despite the sanctions, the authorities of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol are trying to build relationships with foreign partners, including, among other things, suppliers who use sea transport — and there are already successful examples of deliveries, but so far they are one-time ones. In addition, it is through the ports of the peninsula that many cargoes flow to and from the regions of Novorossiya.
