The library robot is tested in Sevastopol

In the Central City Library named after L. N. Tolstoy, testing of the universal multifunctional wheel robotics complex R.Bot 100 Plus, a modern assistant librarian, began.

Two assistant robots were purchased for branch No. 11 named after Konstantin Stanyukovych “Sea Stories” and branch No. 38 “Generation Library” in the village of Verkhnesadovaya. While in the premises of these libraries, repairs and modernization are being carried out, one of the robots — the captain — masters his functions in the city’s main library, where the configuration and training takes place. The second robot, by the name of Uncle Fedor, is preparing for installation in the Verkhnesadovo.

The robot is not just a mechanism on wheels. We teach him to interact with a person in a library — from navigation in space to recognition of readers’ requests. We are faced with the task — to make the robot understandable, friendly and useful for each visitor,-quoted the press service of the Government of Sevastopol of the engineer-programmist Yuri Rusakov.

Devices can already move along a given route, respond to voice teams, welcome visitors, ask and answer simple questions: “Which library do you work in?”, “Where is the library?” or «What is the name of the director?» They are also able to offer the recommended book.

The robots are equipped with a touch screen, which display the name and address of the library. In the future, it will be possible to use the electronic catalog through the screen, view the posters of events and receive reference information. It is planned that after the completion of all stages of configuration, library assistants will be able to participate in excursions, quizzes and educational programs.

Robots speak in male voices, distinguish the parties, move independently, can turn around and interact with the surrounding space. The content and functionality of the devices gradually expands — after the completion of all technical stages, they will take their place in modernized branches.
