The lions “Taigan”, because of which the director of the Skazka Zoo died, will not be euthanized

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The lions that tore apart an employee of the Taigan lion park and the director of the Skazka zoo in the Republic of Crimea, Leokadia Perevalova, will not be euthanized, he said TASS park director Oleg Zubkov. A woman died Wednesday while cleaning a cage containing three lions in a predator attack. A criminal case has been initiated regarding violations of labor protection requirements that resulted in the death of a person through negligence (Part 2 of Article 143 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The lions will continue to live in the park and will not be euthanized.“,” he said, noting that the woman’s funeral is now being organized, and the park management is in full contact with relatives on the issue of providing assistance.

No interruptions in the work of the lion park are expected, the director of the park clarified: “Investigative actions took place yesterday, they do not have any impact on the work of the park. The park is operating as usual.»

Earlier, Zubkov said that the employees who arrived at the scene were no longer able to provide any assistance to the woman.

As the director of Taigan noted, Perevalova began her career as an animal care worker, then became the director of the Yalta Zoo Skazka. The woman was an experienced specialist and trained other employees on how to handle predatory animals.

Safari Park «Taigan» is located in the Belogorsk region of Crimea on the shore of the Taigan reservoir. In 2021, employees of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol opened a case regarding a predator attack on a one-year-old child in a safari park, as a result of which he lost a finger. In May 2024, the Central District Court of Simferopol re-examined the case against Zubkov after the incident with the predator, and handed down a sentence of one year of suspended imprisonment with a probationary period.
