On November 8, an educational program began at the Academy of Creative Industries «Meganom» (project «Tavrida.ART»), where artists, icon painters, restorers, mosaicists and muralists will work out and begin to implement the project for the interior decoration of the church-chapel in the name of St. Great Martyr George the Victorious, construction of which is already underway in Kapsel Bay in Crimea.
Young craftsmen from Tula, Sevastopol and Moscow, together with experts, will go through the key stages of building the temple and will create murals, paint icons for the iconostasis, and also work on the decorative elements of the temple decoration. As part of the program, participants will listen to lectures on the history of icon painting and Orthodoxy in Russia and meet with prominent representatives of church monumental art. In addition to the main work on the project, participants will travel to the holy places of Crimea.
The educational process is divided into three modules: November 8–25; November 27 — December 9; December 11–23.
The curator of the program is Maria-Nicole Selivanova, head of the Tavrida art park, artist-restorer of easel and monumental painting:
This program — This is not only an interesting experience for young icon painters, requiring new solutions and non-standard approaches in creating a modern temple, but also an important step in the continuation of great traditions, because Crimea — the cradle of Orthodoxy and the place from which Byzantine art came to Rus’. We believe that this educational intensive will help assemble a team that in the future will be able to solve large and important tasks in the restoration of Christian shrines«
The experts of the program were the artist-icon painter, author of the draft design for the painting Alexei Paromov, the artist-icon painter, member of the Union of Artists of Russia Sergei Smirnov, the artist-monumentalist, icon painter Alexander Tsypkov, specialist of the Synodal Department for Youth Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church, Deacon Evgeniy Esaulenko, professor of RAZhViZ I Glazunova Natalya Bitsadze.
Temple-chapel in the name of St. The Great Martyr George the Victorious in Kapsel Bay is the first experience of the Tavrida art cluster in the construction of religious buildings. The investment project is being implemented by philanthropist and temple builder Alexei Kakhidze with the support of Tavrida and in partnership with the Synodal Department for Youth Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church. Completion of the first stage of construction is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. In the future, when investment proposals are received, cultural objects of other Russian religions may appear on the territory of the art cluster.
The Meganom Academy of Creative Industries is a conceptually new educational environment for young representatives of culture, art and creative industries, the core of the Tavrida art cluster (a project of Rosmolodezh). The year-round educational center allows specialists to expand their knowledge and professional competencies under the supervision of recognized leaders in the field and take part in interactive projects prepared in collaboration with leading institutions and corporate partners.
