125 young artists took part in the educational program and festival, including artists of symphony orchestras, composers, conductors and sound engineers from all over Russia, and Yury Bashmet, winner of the Legends of Taurida award, violist, conductor, teacher, public figure and People’s Artist of the USSR, Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR, four State Prizes of the Russian Federation and the Grammy Prize, acted as a mentor and artistic director. The Stars of Meganom festival is held in support of young names and national musical culture. The music program is based on works by young composers and recognized masterpieces of classical music. Talented musicians performed compositions by Antonin Dvόrzhak, Henri Vieuxtin, Ludwig van Beethoven, Reinhold Gliere and other famous authors who entered the history of world classical music. In addition, one of the days was dedicated to the work of the brilliant Russian musician and composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.

Classical music — it excites fantasy, improvisation in the deepest sense of the word. You can object, say that improvisation is jazz or other genres. No, the most subtle and complex, the most fascinating improvisation is classical music. Now Russia has great prospects for the development of academic music. Festival participants are the most talented musicians in their regions. Now they are rehearsing here, honing their skills and creating the foundation for the future of new academic music in our country.— says Yuri Bashmet.

Fly to the sound of the surf

The opening of the festival took place on July 20 in one of the iconic places on the southern coast of Crimea — the Artek International Children’s Center in the Morskoy camp. The musicians performed at the finals of the All-Russian competition «Big Break», which brought together the most creative and ambitious students of grades 5-7 from Russia and foreign countries. Duet of trumpet and trombone, consonance of violins and viola, musical synthesis of clarinet and bassoon, as well as the sounds of harp, double bass and piano sounded to the beat of the sea surf and gave the audience an unforgettable experience, which made it possible to appreciate classical music in a new way. As part of the concert, the author’s works of young participants in the program «Yuri Bashmet Academy» were presented. One of the «Stars of Meganom» was Anastasia Chernova, who performed the author’s piece for piano «Take off» ー this is a musical story about inspiration and achievements, gently played on the keys. As a compliment-recognition, the Artek people presented the musicians with the main symbol of Artek, the Artek rose.

The play «Take off» appeared in 2021, it was written for a performance based on the play by Richard Bach «Jonathan Livingston Seagull». This theme became the leitmotif of the protagonist. I wanted to convey a sense of freedom and flight through music. It was very pleasant and joyful to perform at the festival together with excellent musicians from other regions. After one of the concerts, Yuri Bashmet approached me and praised my piece, noted the unexpected modulation in the climax ー exactly where I imagined the takeoff, ー said the participant of the festival Anastasia Chernova from Moscow, a 1st year student of the composition department of the Academy of Music. Gnesins.

A blend of art and long history

The series of events of the Stars of Meganom Classical Music Festival was continued by the performance of artists at the Novy Svet Champagne House. For one evening, the legendary wine cellars of Lev Golitsyn turned into a creative space for true aesthetes and connoisseurs of academic art. During the tour, the guests plunged into the history of the House of Champagne Wines, which this year will celebrate its anniversary — 145 years since its opening. Wine barrels and glass bottles added to the entourage of the concert, and underground acoustics made it possible to hear every bow and the sound of the highest string. Another musical premiere took place in the New World — composer Igor Komar performed his own work «Sentimental Waltz» on the piano in a duet with the cello ー Konstantin Mashitsky was responsible for it.

In addition to the concert, the audience visited an art painting exhibition created by the Tavrida art cluster in a creative blend with the Champagne Winery. On the canvases, Taurida residents Anastasia Poslushnaya, Alexander Brusensky, Dmitry Kulikov, Maria Armen and Pavel Tokarev, with the help of paints, captured all the beauty of the landscapes of the peninsula ー Cape Meganom, the Black Sea coast and bright art objects of Taurida side by side with marine scenes from the work of the chief engineer of Novy Svet Fyodor Soroka and Sudak artist Dominika Kashirina.
