A commemorative event dedicated to the Day of the entry of a limited contingent of the USSR Armed Forces into Afghanistan was held in the square of internationalist soldiers in the Crimean capital.
Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Efim Fiks, combat veterans, leaders and members of public organizations “United Crimean Union of Veterans of Afghanistan and other local wars — internationalist warriors”, representatives of the clergy, residents of the Crimean capital paid tribute to the memory of the fallen soldiers a minute of silence and laid flowers at the memorial to the Crimeans who died in Afghanistan.
Sergei Aksyonov noted that on this memorable day we pay tribute to the internationalist soldiers who fulfilled their duty.
We express our gratitude to the guys whose exploits will forever remain in our history. Among the Crimean militias who took part in the events of the Crimean Spring, there are soldiers who went through the Afghan War. Then their professionalism helped avoid bloodshed on Crimean soil. Today, they, along with military personnel and law enforcement agencies, are again performing combat missions.— said the Head of CrimeaA.
According to Sergei Aksenov, the fact that the younger generation remembers the exploits of soldiers is very valuable.
The courage and valor of the Afghans are an example of true patriotism for the younger generation. There is no doubt that with such people all the goals of the special operation will be achieved and a new Victory Day will appear in the history of our country— emphasized the Head of the Republic.
According to Efim Fiks, Afghan soldiers, fulfilling their international duty, demonstrated to the whole world the strength and courage of the Russian soldier.
Their feat is a legacy of the glorious traditions of heroism and fearlessness of participants in the Great Patriotic War, a manifestation of valor and military brotherhood. The memory of the guys who did not return from the Afghan war remains in our hearts. We always remember and honor everyone who fulfills their duty to protect the Motherlandsaid the first vice-speaker of the Crimean parliament.
The honorary chairman of the public organization “United Crimean Union of Veterans of Afghanistan and Other Local Wars — Internationalist Warriors” Sergei Tarasov expressed gratitude to the authorities of the Republic and the city of Simferopol and to everyone who remembers and appreciates the veterans.
