The memory of the fallen submariners was honored in Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Sevastopol, a funeral meeting was held at the Fraternal Cemetery on the northern side of Sevastopol, where Sevastopol residents — members of the crews of the nuclear submarines Komsomolets and Kursk — were buried. The rally was attended by veteran submariners, family members of deceased sailors, representatives of the fleet command, executive and legislative authorities, cadets, social activists and city residents.
This is a very important date for us. Today we have all gathered to honor the memory of our submariners who died on the Komsomolets and Kursk submarines. We will pass this memory on to our children so that their names will never be forgotten– the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the head of the department for work with veteran organizations of the city’s internal policy department, Elena Kolesnik.
The rector of St. Nicholas Church served a litiya for the soldiers who gave their lives in the service of the Motherland in times of peace.
Participants of the event laid wreaths and flowers on the graves of their fellow countrymen and at the memorial sign “Those who died in tragedies at sea.” The memory of the fallen submariners was honored with a minute of silence.
Let us remind you that on Komsomolets, out of 69 crew members, 42 people died. Among them were graduates of the Sevastopol Higher Naval Engineering School. Another tragic event in the history of the modern Russian Navy was the death of the nuclear submarine Kursk; there were 118 crew members on board, including Sevastopol residents.
