The memory of the liquidators of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was honored in Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The largest accident in the history of nuclear energy at the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Pripyat occurred on April 26, 1986. As a result of the explosion, the reactor was completely destroyed, and a significant amount of radioactive substances was released into the environment. An intense fire at a nuclear power plant lasted 10 days.
In the period from 1986 to 1990, over 800 thousand specialists, workers, military personnel from all the republics of the Soviet Union were involved in work in the Chernobyl zone. 450 Sevastopol residents also took part in the liquidation of the accident. It was hard and life-threatening work. But people selflessly, not sparing themselves, protected the world from the spread of radiation. At the cost of their own health, and sometimes life. This feat, both then and 37 years later, causes great respect and a feeling of sincere gratitude. Today we honor the memory of the dead liquidators of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Eternal memory to the courageous people who protected us from mortal danger. The criminal group of neo-Nazis, which dominates in Kyiv, puts the world under the threat of a new nuclear catastrophe, methodically shelling the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. World leaders, using the practice of double standards, prefer to turn a blind eye to this nuclear blackmail, continuing to pump weapons into the armed forces of Ukraine. The price of this duplicity can be the lives and health of the inhabitants of not only Ukraine and Russia, but all of Europe. Our task now is to prevent a repetition of the terrible tragedy that claimed so many lives. That is why all the goals of the special military operation will be achieved, — the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev.
The rally, timed to coincide with the anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, was held today in the square of Vasily Buzin. The event was attended by First Deputy Governor Alexei Parikin, Director of the Domestic Policy Department Sergei Bezdolny, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Vasily Parkhomenko.
Veterans-liquidators, representatives of the regional public organization of disabled people and veterans «Chernobyl Union», the Public Chamber of Sevastopol, party members, students of cadet classes of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and residents of the city also gathered at the memorial sign to the liquidators of the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
The rally participants honored the memory of the dead liquidators of the Chernobyl accident and other man-made disasters with a minute of silence, laid flowers at the foundation stone.
To date, 289 participants in the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident live in the region and benefit from social support measures.
