The Ministry of Health of Crimea reminds parents about the prevention of child injuries during the summer holidays. Thus, the main factor in ensuring the safety of children of any age is the attentiveness and responsibility of parents.
From an early age, children must be taught proper behavior on the road and in transport, as well as ensuring the child’s safety in all situations. The child should know that it is unsafe to move around the city with headphones on, especially near the roadway and railway. When transporting in a car, it is extremely important to use seat belts and special seats appropriate for the child’s age. A careless attitude towards transporting children in a vehicle can cost the child’s life, while the use of special restraint devices in the event of an accident will reduce the risk of disability and death.
When riding a bicycle, scooter, rollerblades and other means of transportation, the child must wear protective equipment — a helmet, knee and elbow pads and other equipment. This will avoid serious consequences of falls and prevent serious injury.
A frequent cause of severe injuries that lead to disability and death is a fall from a height. Doctors draw the attention of parents: do not leave the child unattended in a room with an open window or balcony, and in no case allow him to lean against a mosquito net, which creates a false sense of security and often becomes the cause of tragedy. Also, parents should always know where the child spends time — games should not be allowed in unfinished or abandoned buildings and other dangerous objects.
When near various bodies of water, including swimming pools, children of any age should be within sight of adults. A child can drown in a matter of minutes even in shallow depths. It is important to teach children the rules of behavior on the water and choose safe places for swimming.
Parental vigilance will also help to avoid household injuries, burns and chemical poisoning. For the safety of young children, not only medications, but also detergents, bleaches, dyes, acids and alkaline solutions should be kept out of their reach. As a rule, containers with household liquids have bright labels that attract the child’s attention. Such substances can cause severe poisoning not only if ingested, but also if inhaled or in contact with the skin or eyes.
We should also focus on safe communication with animals. Parents should explain to their child that petting stray or strange cats and dogs is prohibited, not only because they can bite or scratch, but also due to the likelihood of contracting various infectious and parasitic diseases, which can also lead to serious consequences. This also applies to birds, horses and other animals that can be found on embankments, in parks and zoos.
The Ministry of Health of Crimea emphasizes: in order for your summer holiday to pass without incident, you should be attentive to your children, instill in them safe life skills, explain and carry out preventive measures aimed at preventing childhood injuries.
