The North Crimean Canal is getting shallower. What is being done to supply water to the eastern part of Crimea

Issues of water supply for the population of the eastern part of Crimea are under the control of the State Committee for Water Management and Land Reclamation of the Republic of Crimea. After the destruction of the hydroelectric complex of the Kakhovskaya HPP, from June 8, the flow of water from the Kakhovka reservoir to the North Crimean Canal stopped. To date, the drawdown of the remaining volumes of water in the compartments of the North Crimean Canal continues to fill the Feodosia and Leninskoye reservoirs. This was announced by the chairman of the State Committee for Water Resources of the Republic of Crimea Vladislav Maslyanik.

According to him, as of July 5, the filling of the bulk reservoirs of the North Crimean Canal is more than 70% of the total design volume, or 65 million cubic meters of water.

Further measures of the State Committee for Water Resources to ensure uninterrupted supply of water for drinking and household water supply to the population of water-deficient regions of the Eastern Crimea will be the implementation of routine work to resume normal operation of the Nezhinsky, Prostornensky and Novogrigorevsky groundwater intakes to replenish the volumes of the bulk reservoirs of the North Crimean Canal— said Vladislav Maslyanik.

Specialists of the Nizhnegorsk branch of the State Budgetary Institution of the Republic of Crimea «Krymmeliovodkhoz», assigned to the jurisdiction of the State Committee for Water Management, at the Novoivanovskiy hydroelectric complex carried out work to clear the soil and clean the blocking gates.

At present, water supply to the North Crimean Canal from the Belogorskoye and Taiganskoye reservoirs through the Novoivanovskiy waterworks has been resumed.
