The organizer of the Crimean cell of a terrorist organization received 20 years in prison

The Southern Military District Court found a 47-year-old resident of Crimea guilty of organizing the activities of a cell of a terrorist organization and sentenced him to 20 years in prison. This was reported by the press service of the FSB Department for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

It was established that the Crimean was the organizer of the activities of the local cell of the terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir banned in the Russian Federation (the organization is recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in the Russian Federation — ed.). He determined the goals and objectives of the specified cell, held secret meetings of its members to study the ideology of the specified terrorist organization, carried out propaganda work among the population, determined conspiracy measures and monitored their observance, the report says.

According to the FSB, at the training camp of the cell, they discussed intentions to change the political system and state structure of the Russian Federation with the help of propaganda, as well as waging war with opponents of the ideas of a terrorist organization.

The accused was convicted under Part 1 of Art. 205.5 (organization of the activities of a terrorist organization) and Part 1 of Art. 30 — art. 278 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (preparation for a violent seizure of power). The convict will spend the first five years of the total term of punishment in prison, the remaining 15 years in a strict regime colony, the press service of the regional department of the FSB specified.
