The police of Sevastopol warns: scammers came up with a new scheme of “money divorce”. Under the blow — customers of car services
Krympress reports:
Attackers manage to deceive both car service workers and the owner of the car, who left the car for maintenance or repair.
What is the deception?
Fraudsters watch how the owner transfers the car to the service and leaves. After that, a bell comes to one hundred. The fraudster seems to be the owner of the car, calls it a model and number, and also asks to clarify which phone he left for communication. The master dictates his number, and the offender says that he left the “old” or non -working one, and you need to contact him differently.
Further, on the phone received, the fraudster calls the real client and, pretending to be an employee of the service, begins to tell that the car has a serious breakdown, it requires expensive repairs, and the money must be transferred right now to the map of the company allegedly. Fraudsters can make a motorist differently-for example, to “book” a scarce part or telling about the ability to redeem spare parts cheaper. The client, confident that he communicates with the service, agrees and transfers the required amount to the details specified by the fraudster. The deception pops up only when the victim comes to pick up the finished car.
Over the past day, two local residents turned to the police-a 45-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman who suffered from this scheme of scammers and lost more than 100 thousand rubles.
Moreover, in the latter case, the fraudster showed ingenuity and was able to adjust his deception under unforeseen circumstances. So, calling the car service, he realized that the owner of the car was at that moment next to the master and, introducing himself as her husband, asked to transfer the phone to her. In a conversation with a woman, the swindler already introduced himself as the director of the company and, having shown customer -orientation, asked her a phone number to get a review of the work of his employees in the future. The client of course said, without suspecting anything strange. And then the situation developed according to the usual scenario. The victim learned about supposedly additional repair costs from the false director and transferred her money to him.
The police of Sevastopol calls for car service workers to disseminate this information among their colleagues and be more vigilant in conversations with clients. Do not inform anyone of the number of client phones! And do not call the causes of appeals!
Citizens also need to be attentive and remember that no one should ask the car owner to transfer money to the card — all issues need to be resolved on the spot in the service center. Write down the master’s contact number in the phone book and ask him to warn him in advance if he calls you from another.
This is the only way you can protect yourself!
