The Prosecutor General's Office will conduct an audit of cameras on the country's roads
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Prosecutor General’s Office will conduct a massive check of cameras on the roads. The department decided to undertake an audit after it discovered many fines received by drivers due to incorrect operation of photo and video recording devices. As follows from messages The Prosecutor General’s Office, in all regions of the country, prosecutors have been instructed (together with the traffic police) to conduct an audit of the locations of cameras on the roads in 2024.
The first results of camera inspections are already in!
Thanks to the intervention of the prosecutor’s office in a number of regions, citizens were released from punishment imposed due to incorrect system settings,” noted the Prosecutor General’s Office.
For example, in the Saratov region, due to improper operation of the complex for automatically recording violations, almost 2 thousand (!) illegal decisions on bringing to administrative responsibility were canceled. At the same time, due to poor-quality photographic materials produced by the system, about 3 thousand violators, on the contrary, escaped punishment.
Prosecutors have identified cases where photo and video recording systems were faulty due to improper maintenance or were idle without operation,” said the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation had prepared a draft of new requirements for traffic surveillance cameras: camera control zones for the same type of violations may be prohibited from being placed closer than 1 km in populated areas, and outside the city — closer than 5 km. In this case, an exception may be made “depending on the location of accident concentration areas.”
Even earlier, in July 2022, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev instructed the State Traffic Inspectorate to stop the use of mobile photo-video recording systems by inspectors.
