The railway from Rostov-on-Don to Crimea through new regions will begin operating before the end of this year

The railway connecting Rostov-on-Don and Crimea (through new regions) will begin to operate fully by the end of 2024, the report says. message Roszheldor, with reference to the words of the first deputy head of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise «Railways of Novorossiya» Oleg Kalevatykh (the company is under the jurisdiction of Roszheldor).

Work to restore the highway and build a new branch began in September 2023. During this time, a 63 km long section was paved and 140 km of tracks were restored. This is the first stage of the project. Two more will be completed before the end of 2024. They provide for the laying of dead ends and interchanges for routes, the construction of premises for station attendants and a number of other works— noted in Roszheldor.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia will continue to restore the railway running from the Rostov region through Donbass and Novorossiya; it will become an alternative route to the Crimean Bridge to the peninsula.

Roszheldor added that freight trains have already begun running on March 15, and passenger service will be launched after the situation in the region normalizes. The railway has become an alternative to the existing highway.
