On July 23, the Yalta deanery and believers adopted the miraculous icon of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky with a particle of relics from the Holy Trinity Alexander Nevsky Lavra (St. Petersburg), the relics of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir the Great (Sevastopol) and the marching icon of Alexander Nevsky. The shrines arrived from the Sochi Church of the Holy Boar Prince Alexander Nevsky.
Over the period of the procession, we visit the cities of the Crimean coast and the Krasnodar Territory, including: Sochi, Tuapse, Novorossiysk, Kerch of Feodosia, Yalta and Sevastopol. The spiritual sea route has been held for the 11th in a row (starting in 2014) on the initiative of the Public Organization “Orthodox St. Petersburg” and with the blessing of Metropolitan of the Simferopol and Crimean Lazarus, and as part of the Alexander Nevsky program, carried out to bless the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ Cyril.
This year, nine crew members, including the clergy, are on board the sailing catamaran of Mary 2. The completion of the course at the walls of the ancient Chersonesus (Korsuni) is deeply symbolic. It recalls the arrival of the first Metropolitan of the Russian Department with the Great shrines from Byzantium by the Byzantium of the First Metropolitan. This event preceded the adoption of Holy Baptism by Prince Vladimir, which was a turning point in the history of Rus’.
