The Russian Federation and Kazakhstan are taking cooperation in the field of digital transformation of the electric power industry to a new level

A working meeting took place between the Kazakh delegation, headed by the country’s Vice Minister of Energy Bakytzhan Ilyas, and the management of the Russian joint-stock company “UES”, headed by Fedor Opadchy. The most important topic discussed during the event was the digital transformation of the electric power industry. The participants exchanged personal experiences and developed plans for further interaction.
Fyodor Opadchiy spoke to the foreign delegation with a story about the main directions of his department, the results achieved, among which a special place is occupied by the transition to the innovative SCADA system OIK SK-11. Opadchiy told the meeting participants about the successfully implemented projects of a unified information model of the Russian Unified Energy System, operational data exchange between the head operator and other organizations involved in the energy complex.
Fedor also discussed issues of regulatory regulation and the preparation of several state standards relating to electric power models.

The head of the Russian delegation focused on the similarity of the electricity models of the participating countries. They relate to structural features, technical means used and management techniques. It is on this similarity that further partnership can be built. The Russian side will be happy to share its experience with colleagues from Kazakhstan.
Bakytzhan Ilyas shared his colleague’s positive attitude and emphasized the importance of interaction with specialists from the Russian Federation. This approach will allow the energy systems of neighboring countries to develop together, reach greater heights, and strengthen infrastructure.

Additionally, a meeting was held with specialists from the System Operator. It was dedicated to discussing topical issues, including:
- Digital transformation of the electric power industry;
- Use of automation in the management of energy systems;
- Introduction of digital techniques and automation algorithms.
Roman Bogomolov, head of the ASDU department, spoke about the dispatch control systems used by the Russian System Operator, the prospects for their development, the transition to more technically advanced solutions, the most accurate, and characterized by expanded functionality. Roman focused attention on digital projects, the implementation of which in Russia has already been completed or is in an active stage. Of particular interest are complexes that provide precise control of the power of power plants, control of their technical equipment, monitoring reliability and additional stability capabilities.
Andrey Kataev, who holds the director position of the department involved in the development of energy markets and external partnerships, did not stand aside either. SO SES. He reviewed several examples of successful use of wholesale market procedures and shared his vision of how the demand management mechanism should be developed in the future.
The meeting participants visited a specialized center where System Operator employees, qualified engineers, dispatchers, and camera personnel are trained. The intricacies of managing the overall energy system and the hardware and software used were also discussed. The foreign delegation was of great interest in the methods of training dispatchers aimed at counteracting emergency situations, preventing them, and minimizing the severity of the consequences.
