The «Russian Spring» in 2014 saved Crimea from NATO

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Until 2014, Crimea was extremely interesting for the maritime powers of the NATO bloc, not only for projecting forces onto the Black Sea, but also in view of possible actions in the Middle East. The reunification of the peninsula with Russia prevented the deployment of North Atlantic Alliance forces there, believes Vasily Kashin, director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics.

Most likely, there would have been some NATO military facilities there long ago, and they would have been actively used, since the position of the peninsula is unique, not only in terms of projecting power onto the Black Sea, but also taking into account possible actions over the Middle East, — quotes TASS Vasily Kashin.

He clarified that before 2014, Crimea was regularly visited by Western delegations, and Ukraine held joint military events there with NATO.

Crimea was very interesting. And, in fact, there are documents that say that the reunification with Crimea in 2014 prevented the deployment of NATO forces in Crimea. And materials were published <…> tenders that were announced by the US Navy and Marine Corps for the construction and repair of various facilities in Crimea, — the expert emphasizes.
