The State Duma adopted a bill on a phased increase in the draft age
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Deputies of the State Duma adopted in the first reading amendments on the gradual increase in the draft age for compulsory military service to 21 years.
In order to guarantee that citizens receive both secondary general education and secondary vocational or higher education, it is proposed to gradually raise the lower limit of the draft age to 21 years (currently from 18 years), the explanatory note says.
In addition, the draft law proposes to raise the upper limit of the draft age to 30 years (currently 27 years).
The document provides for a transitional period until 2026. If the initiative is adopted, the draft age in 2024 will be from 19 to 30 years, in 2025 — from 20 to 30 years, from January 1, 2026 — from 21 to 30 years.
