“The street is freedom”: street theater masters completed their training at the Meganom Academy

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In December, the educational program “Street Theater” was completed at the Academy of Creative Industries “Meganom” (project “Tavrida.ART”). Over the course of three months, actors, directors, managers, artists and festival organizers improved their skills, which in the future will allow them to develop street theaters in their regions.

Training in the “Street Theater” program began online in September and, after a face-to-face module at the Meganom Academy in Crimea, ended in December. Participants — 37 representatives of street theaters from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Sevastopol, Krasnodar Territory, Arkhangelsk, Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod, Tomsk, Vologda regions, the Republics of Tatarstan and Karelia, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

Maria Litvinova, co-curator of the “Street Theater” program, director, producer, actress, founder and director of the Trickster theater company, believes that program «Street theater» is relevant because many of the artists, directors, managers and street theater artists do not have specialized professional education and came to this industry solely at the call of the soul:

I believe that education in the field of street theater is extremely important, especially now when there is a great demand for this product and this demand exceeds the supply in the summer there are many city festivals, there are winter street festivals, city holidays, in which street theaters often participate, and it is necessary to teach the theater to communicate with the authorities, work with the city, keep accounts, create and maintain legal documentation, make the right website so that it helps not only to the theater, but so that he helps the customer.

Basic management tools exist in public and private stationary theaters that directly work with the audience, but they do not exist in street theater as an industry, which is why it is so significant that the Meganom Academy paid attention to this rather narrow, not so long ago emerging and only a layer of theater that is beginning to develop in Russia.

I really hope that these programs will continue and I believe that we need to train artists, managers, directors, and then we will have a quality product. We, as customers (I mean both Tavrida and myself as the head of the festival in Pskov) understand how important this quality content is, and it doesn’t just come out of thin air, it should be done by professional people, and why not give it to them this professional knowledge and not teach them how to work with riders, lights, technical specifications, reports, and so on, — notes Maria Litvinova.

The educational program “Street Theater” was held at the Academy of Creative Industries “Meganom” within the framework of the “entertainment arts” direction. Young street theater workers were trained in current professional skills of classical and modern drama, the search for plastic and sound solutions, and the creation of a literary basis for a performance. The students also understood the peculiarities of theater management and learned how to build its brand, as well as develop the theater by attracting grant funds.

Street theater it is for the viewer and for the actor. This is mutual love, where the actor madly loves what he does, cannot live without it and shares it with the viewer, and the viewer, if he is inspired, also cannot live without it. The viewer wants to absorb art, like food that the body lacks, and he begins to look for it and thus develops. Programs like Street Theater make our future. We pass on our skills, for example, what I give, This is 35 years of experience. In a condensed format, I offer my knowledge, plant seeds that will generate ideas in participants, questions that they will ask, and then be able to pass on these ideas. Then the quality and level of performances will increase, because the creators will be more educated. Street theaters have a great future, because the street this is freedom. Freedom is dangerous in some things, it is intoxicating, but freedom also gives other emotions, other energy. Freedom is good! — says Sergei Davydov, artistic director of the Mikos clown theater.

The educational program was curated by Olga Markelcheva, producer of the theater and circus direction of the Tavrida art cluster.
