The Sudak Fortress Museum has a new exhibition: “Irrigated Ceramics of Sugdeya”
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In the Sudak Fortress Museum-Reserve, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea, a temporary exhibition “Irrigated Ceramics of Sugdeya” has opened.
Plates, cups, bowls on ring trays, bowls, jugs, bowls, dishes of Byzantine and Crimean production of the 10th-15th centuries from the collection of the museum-reserve are presented in the Consular Tower.
The basis of the collection of medieval glazed ceramics was formed by the finds of archaeological expeditions that conducted research on the territory of the Sudak fortress and in the waters of the bays of Sudak and Novy Svet in the 1970-2000s. Glazed ceramics are the same age as the formation of Sugdeya as a center of handicraft production, a true indicator of the formation of urban culture, reflecting the direction and paths of international relations and interaction of peoples.— the republican Ministry of Culture reported.
The presented exposition gives an opportunity to see the diversity of glazed ceramics of Sugdeya, its forms and decor, shining with magnificence glaze, perfectly preserved for centuries. The exhibition will continue to work until September 30, 2024.
