The Sudak Fortress Museum presented the project “Underwater Treasures of the Black Sea” in the Rostov region

The Sudak Fortress Museum-Reserve, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea, was presented in the Azov Historical, Archaeological and Paleontological Museum-Reserve named after. A.A. Gorbenko (in the Rostov region) inter-museum exhibition project “Underwater Treasures of the Black Sea”.
This is the first museum exhibition outside Crimea and another inter-museum project of the Azov and Sudak museum-reserves, which introduces residents and guests of the Rostov region to interesting material from underwater archaeological research conducted in the Black Sea.
The exhibition presents a stock collection of 215 objects from the 5th-15th centuries, collected as a result of underwater archaeological excavations of 1960-2016. in the waters of Sudak, Novosvetskaya and Koktebel bays: medieval amphorae, amphoriscus, jugs, glazed red clay ceramics, a collection of white clay dishes, fragments of pithos, a collection of lead plastic and bronze items, stone products from Byzantine marblereports the press service of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea.
The exhibition also displays one of the rare antique finds — an anchor rod dating back to the 2nd century. BC. — III century AD, which was found at Cape Malchin (Koktebel).
The exhibition series is illustratively complemented by photographs from underwater excavation sites.
