The swimming season has just started, and already a tragedy — a man drowned in Sevastopol

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The swimming season in the region started less than a week ago, but even before it began, a tragedy had already occurred on the water, as a result of which 1 person died. Last year, 18 accidents at water bodies were registered on the territory of Sevastopol, 23 people were saved, unfortunately, 10 citizens died.

It is important to know that desperate cries for help and waving of hands are not always signs that a person is drowning. Often drowning people are not physiologically able to scream, because the moments when they emerge from the water are barely enough for short breaths and exhalations. Also, often people instinctively stretch their arms out to the sides in an attempt to push off the water, so they cannot swing them to get attention. It is worth being alert if a person’s head is thrown back, the mouth is open and almost under water, the head alternately submerges under water and emerges sharply. In this case, the question “Is everything all right?” there will be no answer — this is a sure sign: help is urgently needed. Do not forget that diving in unfamiliar places, you can get serious injuries, and from hitting your head you can completely lose consciousness and die. Often, children arrange games in the water related to the capture of other swimmers, push each other from surface structures, cling to logs, boards, use home-made rafts. It always comes with a lot of risk. Also, uncontrolled bathing children often allow hypothermia of the body, which can lead to convulsions that do not allow them to stay on the water. It also happens: having got into a dangerous situation while swimming, a person aggravates it with panic. For example, being far from the coast. There is enough strength to swim out, there is also an opportunity to call for help, but fear fetters the body, confuses thoughts, and does not allow you to focus on making the right decision. Therefore, it is important to remain vigilant and never allow fear and anxiety to take possession of you! — emphasize the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Sevastopol.

Ensuring the safe recreation of people on the water requires strict adherence to simple but important rules:

  • exclude single exits to the beach;
  • do not allow children to swim and stay near the water without adult supervision;
  • do not visit for the purpose of swimming a coast that is not equipped for recreation and places prohibited for swimming;
  • the use of air mattresses and toys, car cameras is prohibited;
  • it is strictly forbidden to carry out any activities on the water out of sight and without the provision of signaling, warning and communication means;
  • it is strictly forbidden to swim up to any ships — both moving and anchored, to flooded or partially flooded watercraft — this is deadly, especially when the sea is rough and the current is strong; moving boats create whirlpools, waves and tighten people floating near them under the propellers;
  • do not use rowing and motor boats, water bicycles and motorcycles in public bathing areas;
  • do not swim behind the barrier buoys;
  • in no case do not swim in stormy weather;
  • do not enter the water while intoxicated;
  • in the water should be no more than 10-15 minutes.
