    The safety of vacationers in places equipped for swimming will be ensured by more than 200 rescuers, whose tasks include providing the necessary assistance both on the water and on the shore. Equipment will include boats and cars, — noted in the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Sevastopol.

In 2023, 22 accidents occurred on the water; unfortunately, 14 people died, including 1 child. 11 people were rescued, including 4 children.

An analysis of the deaths of people in water bodies of Sevastopol from 2014 to 2024 showed that most of the incidents that resulted in the death of people occurred in places prohibited for swimming, or on wild beaches in potentially dangerous places. Alcohol intoxication often became a fatal factor.

From the information provided, the conclusion follows: most often, the death of people on the water occurs as a result of the frivolity of citizens, an overestimation of strength and capabilities. The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the city of Sevastopol calls on residents and guests of the region to follow the rules of safe behavior while relaxing on the beach and swimming in the sea!

  • exclude single trips to the beach;
  • if you do not know how to swim, do not go into the water deeper than waist-deep;
  • do not jump into the water from rocks, piers, boats and boats;
  • do not allow children to swim or stay near the water without adult supervision;
  • do not visit the coastline that is not equipped for recreation and places prohibited for swimming for the purpose of swimming;
  • The use of inflatable mattresses, toys, and inner tubes for swimming is prohibited;
  • It is strictly prohibited to carry out any activities on the water beyond visibility and without the provision of signaling, warning and communication means;
  • It is strictly forbidden to swim close to any vessels — both moving and anchored, to flooded or partially submerged watercraft — this is mortally dangerous, especially in rough seas and strong currents; moving watercraft create whirlpools, waves and pull people floating nearby under the propellers;
  • do not use rowing and motorized watercraft, pedal boats and motorcycles in public bathing areas;
  • do not give false alarms;
  • do not use dangerous games in and under water, especially those involving grabbing swimmers;
  • do not swim beyond the barrier buoys;
  • Do not swim in stormy weather under any circumstances;
  • do not enter the water while intoxicated;
  • You should stay in the water for no more than 10-15 minutes.

It is important to know that signs that a person is drowning are not always desperate cries for help and waving their arms. Often, drowning people are physiologically unable to scream, because the moments when they emerge from the water are barely enough for short inhalations and exhalations. Also, people often instinctively extend their arms out to the sides in an attempt to push off from the water, so they cannot wave them to attract attention. You should be wary if a person’s head is thrown back, his mouth is open and almost under water, his head alternately dives under the water and comes up sharply. In this case, the question “Is everything okay?” there will be no answer — this is a sure sign: help is urgently needed. Do not forget that when diving in unfamiliar places, you can get serious injuries, and from hitting your head you can even lose consciousness and die. Children often play games in the water that involve grabbing other swimmers, pushing each other off surface structures, clinging to logs and boards, and using homemade rafts. This always involves serious risks. Also, children swimming uncontrollably often suffer from hypothermia, which can lead to convulsions that prevent them from staying in the water. This also happens: when a person finds himself in a dangerous situation while swimming, he aggravates it by panicking. For example, finding yourself far from the shore. There is enough strength to swim out, there is also an opportunity to call for help, but fear constrains the body, confuses thoughts, and does not allow one to concentrate on making the right decision. Therefore, it is important to remain vigilant and never allow fear and anxiety to take over you!

Remember: when relaxing on the water and near the water, caution, discipline, organization and responsibility must not be neglected! Do not endanger your life, do not risk the well-being and health of your children! Take care of yourself and your loved ones!
