The trial of the “water blockade” of the peninsula began in the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea

In the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea, a preliminary court hearing was held in a civil case on the claim of the Public Chamber of the Republic of Crimea against the State of Ukraine represented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine on the recognition of the right to compensation for moral damage for citizens of the Russian Federation living in the territory of the Republic of Crimea, caused as a result of the “water blockade” of the peninsula.
During the preliminary court hearing, based on the essence of the requirements, the following were involved in participation in this case: the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Crimea, the State Unitary Enterprise of the Republic of Crimea «Water of Crimea», the State Council of the Republic of Crimea, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea. Also, the prosecutor of the Republic of Crimea, represented by his authorized representative, was involved in this case to give an opinion on the essence of the stated requirements.
Also, taking into account the opinions of the participants in the case, information provided by the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Crimea was added to the materials of the civil case: about the emergence of technical difficulties due to a shortage of water resources; government decisions taken to eliminate water supply shortages; on the consequences of stopping the supply of fresh water for ensuring drinking water supply to consumers of the Republic of Crimea. This information was provided at the request of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea and is necessary to clarify legally significant circumstances for a comprehensive and complete consideration of this civil casereports the press service of the court.
Based on the results of the preliminary court hearing, the judge made a ruling to schedule a trial hearing on the merits for June 14, 2024, at 10:00. The case is heard in open court.
