The unique Museum of World Languages in Crimea has undergone a large-scale exhibition renovation
CrimeaPRESS reports:
A large-scale update of the exhibition took place at the Museum of the World’s Languages in Crimea, in the picturesque village of Zelenogorye. The Museum of the World’s Languages was opened in 2019 and is the only museum in Russia dedicated to the linguistic diversity of the planet. The exhibition has more than 3,000 exhibits, including the sounds of languages, examples of writing on different writing materials, and much more.
The collection has been expanded with unique artifacts from different parts of the world. Among them are ancient Buddhist manuscripts on palm leaves from Myanmar, Thailand and India, the Taoist sacred jade book of heaven, talking drums from Africa and Papua New Guinea, a Chinese printing press, Tibetan prayer wheels, an Ethiopian parchment scroll-amulet in the ancient Ge’ez language and much more. In addition, the museum now has an interactive map of all the languages of the planet, as well as a working bell tower and a model of an optical telegraph — a means of communication over long distances in the first half of the 19th century. The Russian language stand and the main part of the exhibition, introducing visitors to scripts and various facets of the linguistic diversity of the planet, have been expanded.— the press service of the Ministry of Resorts and Tourism of the Republic of Crimea reported.
The Museum of World Languages became an official partner of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the field of education and received the status of a social enterprise.
As noted by the director of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation on the Russian Language Andrei Kibrik, everything in the museum is done at the highest professional level, with deep knowledge of various areas of modern linguistics.
The creation of the museum is a private initiative of linguistics researcher Evgeny Vladimirovich Gavrilov, the result of many years of studying the linguistic diversity of the planet and a large number of trips around the world.
Museum is located in the picturesque mountain village of Zelenogorye (between Sudak and Alushta). Opening hours: 10:00 to 18:00, 7 days a week.
