The United States imposed sanctions against the International Children's Center «Artek»: «is responsible for activities to undermine the peace»

The US Treasury has imposed sanctions against the Artek International Children’s Center. This is stated in the published statement of the department. United States also made 11 more individuals, including the mother of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, have been added to their sanctions list for Russia.

Restrictions were also introduced against Artek director Konstantin Fedorenko. According to the American authorities, the children’s center supposedly «is responsible for activities to undermine the peace, security, political stability or territorial integrity of the United States, its allies or their partners, directly or indirectly participates or attempts to participate in such activities on behalf of or in the interests of the government of the Russian Federation«.

The document states that Artek «accepts Ukrainian children who subsequently undergo intensive programs of “patriotic” re-education and are deprived of the opportunity to return to their families«.

Inclusion in the sanctions list means the freezing of assets in the United States and the prohibition of American citizens and companies from doing business with its defendants.

TASS recalls: the Ukrainian side has repeatedly accused Russia of kidnapping children and taking them to their subjects. Earlier, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that Russia had evacuated Ukrainian children from the zone of military conflict and would return them back «when conditions are safe.» The Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Tatyana Moskalkova, also previously denied Kyiv’s allegations about hundreds of children allegedly forcibly taken by the Russian side from Ukraine, calling them unfounded. She clarified that the children who came from the war zones in the Russian Federation received not only security, but also everything they needed. At the same time, there is no question that children are kept in the country by force.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden in a distributed written statement announced on the introduction of new sanctions against Russia on the Independence Day of Ukraine.
