The “Universum” program is waiting for the winners of the competition for the 10th Artek shift

Samara National Research University named after Academician S.P. Korolev announced a competition for participation in the additional general development program “Universum”.

The Universum program will be implemented at the Artek International Children’s Center as part of the 10th shift in 2024 (September 1-2 – September 21-22, 2024).

The purpose of the competitive selection: to identify new and support the most worthy participants who have achieved success in the field of social and human sciences and have successfully completed competitive tasks, to be rewarded with a ticket to the thematic session in 2024 at the Artek International Children’s Center.

Citizens of the Russian Federation aged 14 to 17 years inclusive are invited to participate in the Competition, and at the beginning of the Competition — children studying in grades 8-10 (the child must not be 18 years old during the shift).

The first stage of the competition began on February 1, 2024: at official website of «Universum»» Until March 31, 2024, correspondence testing is carried out in Russian and English languages, literature and history.

The second qualifying stage is carried out in absentia and involves the implementation of a research project within one of the thematic blocks (“Linguistics (Russian language)”, “Linguistics (English language)”, “Literary studies”, “Psychology”, “History”). A project on one of the proposed topics includes 3 assignment formats: longread, graphic poster in science-pop style, video business card.

In the second ten days of July 2024, the winners of the second stage of the competition will take part in an educational intensive under the guidance of leading teachers from the Social Sciences and Humanities Institute of Samara University. Schoolchildren from all over the country will have the opportunity not only to better prepare for the thematic shift, to finalize their longreads for publication in a popular science magazine, but also to get acquainted with the activities of one of the leading universities.

The competition consists of several stages and is held on the following dates:

• February 1, 2024 — announcement of the Competition,
• until March 31, 2024 — acceptance of applications and holding the first stage of the Competition,
• until June 10, 2024 – holding the second stage of the Competition,
• until June 30, 2024 – examination of the works of the second stage, summing up the results of the Competition,
• second ten days of July 2024 – full-time stage at Samara University and/or using remote technologies (for finalists).
