The winners of the second season of the Festival «Cultural code of Sevastopol» were announced

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The results of the second season of the «Cultural Code of Sevastopol» were summed up in the business center «Tsar’s Quay». Recall that the project started back in January: it was then that the acceptance of applications from artists and sculptors who wanted to create a new unique art object for the city began. The festival was implemented by the ANO «Center for the Formation of Civic Culture» with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives and the Russian State Art Gallery. In total, the organizers received 44 applications. Of these, five finalists were selected — and on May 30 they came to Sevastopol to be inspired by the city and create models of their art objects.

The finalists of the second season of the «Cultural Code of Sevastopol» were the teams of Alexei Komov and Ksenia Lantsova from Moscow, Ekaterina Shmakova, who also came to Crimea from the capital, Igor Gladkikh from Simferopol and Elizaveta Bochkareva from Feodosia. For several days they got acquainted with the city, the spirit of which they were going to capture in their works. So, the creators visited Malakhov Kurgan and Tauric Chersonese, visited Balaklava and conquered the famous Crimean mountains. In early June, they began to implement models of their art objects: they worked in a specialized workshop.

The final of the «Cultural Code of Sevastopol» was held on June 11. Starting from noon, a variety of activities took place in the business center: there were master classes in painting with acrylics, oils, watercolors and even wine, you could also draw a funny comic or a spectacular picture using spray paint. Festival guests actively participated in the quest, got acquainted with the goods presented at the handmade fair and, of course, admired the models of art objects. In parallel, lively discussions were held in the conference hall of the Tsarskaya Pristan, at the end of which the finalists presented their works. The artwork made by the Center for Recycling and Design helped to navigate and not get lost in the locations.

The respected members of the Expert Council were entrusted with making a difficult decision and determining the winners. It included: Lyubov Soldatkina, head of the Russia is Here project, Vitaly Zotov, director of the Russian State Art Gallery, Alexei Tikhonov, director of the SevGU City Development Institute, artists Alexei Kislov and Alexander Votsmush, Maria-Nikol Selivanova, head of the Tavrida.ART art park. The winners were Igor Gladkikh with the Wave of Times mosaic art object and the team of Alexei Komov, who created the Anchor art object. These works will be realized in full size in the near future.

The works of Ekaterina Shmakova (“Steel Surf”) and Elizaveta Bochkareva (“SevSU – Sea of Opportunities”) were also highly appreciated and encouraged. They will also appear in the city in full size — the first with the assistance of the Russian State Art Gallery, and the other with the support of Sevastopol State University.

Despite the bad weather, the festival turned out great! The program was extremely intense: there were wonderful master classes, the artists of the street theater «Soft Sign» were again at their best, and our evening was also enriched by a concert of classical music. But, of course, our finalists were the heroes of the day. They showed themselves very brightly and extraordinary on defense. The experts, our members of the jury, did a great job: they devoted the first half of the festival to heated discussions, and after that they duly appreciated the art objects presented by the contestants. The verdict was passed almost unanimously. Everything worked out for the best, and I am grateful to everyone for our wonderful Festival.”— said the head of the ANO «CFGK» and the project «Cultural Code of Sevastopol» Valery Aleksandrin.

I am extremely happy and proud for our New Hellas team, for the fact that our work, the Anchor art object, was appreciated. Our team is interregional, it brought together professionals from Kaluga, Moscow and Sevastopol. Among us there are not only architects and designers, but also architectural historians — for example, my colleague Andrey Karagodin, who represented the team and the art object at the finals of the Cultural Code. But the main thing that unites us is love for our craft, Taurida, Crimea and Sevastopol. We wish the Festival «Cultural Code of Sevastopol» many years, prosperity and, of course, further development— notes the winner of the second season of the project Alexey Komov.

To be honest, until the middle of making mock-ups, I was not sure of the success of my project. And only then, after searching, sketching and thinking, the idea of a series of works united by a common idea began to form. Now I still cannot fully realize the scale of the work to be done, but this is a big challenge for me and a great trust not only from the “Cultural Code” team, but from the whole of Sevastopol. I have yet to put my thoughts and impressions on the shelves, but even now I can say for sure that the past two weeks have been one of the most interesting, eventful and difficult periods of my life. It was unforgettable — and it will be unforgettable, I’m sureemphasizes another winner of the second season of the competition Igor Gladkikh.

The bright end of the evening was the play «Averchenko’s Islands», prepared by the first professional street theater in Sevastopol «Soft Sign», and a fire show.
