The Yalta House-Museum of A.P. Chekhov celebrated 103 years since its creation

The main festive events this year took place on April 10 and they began with a vernissage of children’s drawings “Yalta — the city of Chekhov” by students of the Yalta Children’s Art School named after. F. A. Vasilyeva. In honor of the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Chekhov garden, visitors were given an author’s tour of the blooming memorial garden, which was conducted by Yulia Dolgopolova, senior researcher at the A.P. Chekhov House-Museum in Yalta. Guests were able not only to see the plants that the writer himself had planted, but also took memorable photographs in a themed photo zone, and at the end of the excursion, everyone received a unique museum publication “The Extraordinary Garden of A.P. Chekhov” as a gift.
Also on this day, the presentation of the exhibition “Chekhov’s Artists” took place. The new exhibition project revealed for museum guests another facet of the talent of the great playwright’s large family. The exhibition presents unique paintings and graphic works that were created at different times by representatives of the Chekhov family, as well as their personal belongings, archival photographs and other valuable artifacts.
In addition, students of the Yalta Children’s Art School took part in plein air in the garden of eternal spring at the Belaya Dacha. And the festive program was completed by the broadcast of the works of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov performed by the master of artistic expression, Laureate of the All-Russian Pushkin Competition of artist-readers Vladimir Zavyalov.
Information: On April 9, 1921, the writer’s sister and the first director of the museum, Maria Pavlovna Chekhova, received a safe conduct, and the writer’s house received the status of a state museum. Since then, this memorable date has been honored annually by museum staff.
