The youth of the LPR got acquainted with the history of Chersonese. Impressions, they say, a lot
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Members of youth social movements and organizations of the Lugansk People’s Republic, who arrived in Sevastopol at the invitation of the Russian Union of Youth, visited the museum-reserve with a sightseeing tour. The sunny weather and the skills of the experienced employees of the institution helped the guests to get a visual idea of Chersonese and its rich history.
Young activists from the LPR were told about how in the 5th century BC, immigrants from Heraclea Pontica and colonists from the island of Delos founded a city on the shore of Karantinnaya Bay, the name of which is translated from ancient Greek as “peninsula”. The sightseers learned that Chersonesos existed for about two thousand years, for a long time was under the influence
Roman Empireand Byzantium, fell into disrepair as a result of raids by nomads XIII– XIV centuries and was revived in the XIX century as a monument of archeology , — reported the press service of the museum-reserve Tauric Chersonese.

The guests were introduced to the fortifications of the ancient city, its political structure, military affairs, culture and traditions. During the tour, they also saw a model of the Oath of the citizens of Chersonesus, which was once taken by young ephebes upon reaching adulthood. On the main square (agora), visitors were told in detail about how in 988 an important historical event took place in the ancient city — the baptism of Prince Vladimir, which had a huge impact for the development of our state.
Irina Shnyrina, a member of the social movement of the LPR «Young Guard» and the project «We Remember» shared her impressions:
Our friendly visit is an opportunity not only to exchange experience with Sevastopol colleagues, but also to visit such a culturally and patriotically significant place as Tauric Chersonesus. We were able to see its central part, the Port and Northern regions, the Antique Theater and St. Vladimir Cathedral. I would like to express my gratitude to the staff of the museum-reserve, who allowed us to get to know the history of the ancient city, the culture and way of life of its population.
We hope that the guests from the Luhansk People’s Republic liked Tauric Chersonese, that they learned a lot of interesting things and received a charge of positive emotions.
