There are 8 shelters for homeless animals in Crimea
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In 2024, 2,878 dogs and 392 cats will be sterilized. The number of stray animals caught and placed for life in shelters amounted to 3,460 animals, which is 1,753 less than last year, said Valeria Ivanova, Chairman of the State Veterinary Committee of the Republic of Crimea, on the implementation of state policy in the field of responsible treatment of animals.
Today, there are 8 shelters in the republic, 2 of which are state-owned: “Krymskaya Pravda” (for 148 places) and “Sizovka” (for 170 places). The capacity of private animal shelters is 1,300 animals.
Due to the fact that the occupancy of some shelters has been exhausted or will be exhausted in the coming years, it is necessary to make an informed decision on the issue of lifelong housing of aggressive animals, — says the head of the relevant department.
In turn, the Chairman of the Committee on Ecology and Natural Resources, Svetlana Shabelnikova, emphasized the need to solve the problem of aggressive stray animals at the municipal level, especially in resort regions.
Valery Ivanov also noted effective interaction with the territorial divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In 2023, the number of materials from inspections of the Ministry of Internal Affairs containing signs of violations of legislation in the field of treatment of animals amounted to 374, in 2024 it increased to 617. During five months of this year, 56 animal owners who violated the rules for walking and keeping their pets were brought to administrative responsibility .
