A population of shrimp in the Azov-Black Sea basin has grown 30 times over the past 10 years, the Azovo-Black Sea branch of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography reported.
In connection with the increase in the level of salinity in the Sea of Azov, favorable conditions for the habitat of shrimp, rapans, scafars and mussels have developed— said the institute.
According to scientists, the recommended catch of marine inhabitants increased from 30 to 456 tons. And thanks to an elevated temperature background, it was possible to start a fishing before — in the first decade of January.
As of March 20, the largest catch was observed in the Northern Sea of Azov, where about 89% of the total catch on the Sea of Azov was obtained. The largest catches are recorded in the Zaporizhzhya region in the Utlyuk estuary and the inhabitant of the bay.
