There are only two underground passages in Sevastopol. They decided to overhaul one of them
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Sevastopol, work has begun on the overhaul of the underground pedestrian crossing at the Sailor Koshka stop. As the city government clarified, during the work the underground pedestrian crossing will be closed, a temporary surface pedestrian crossing will be organized for people and a traffic light will be installed.
Based on numerous requests from residents, we decided to design a major renovation. Last year we completed the design and received a positive conclusion from the State Expertise. As of today, the contract has been concluded, the contractor has entered the sitesaid Deputy Director of the Department of Transport and Development of Road Transport Infrastructure of Sevastopol Nikolai Maksimov.
The work will be carried out by the contractor «DSK-19». At the pedestrian crossing, the load-bearing capacity of reinforced concrete structures will be restored, staircases will be replaced with the installation of anti-slip elements, the entrance lobbies will be rebuilt with a polycarbonate canopy, the floor and walls of the tunnel part will be replaced with decorative stone made of natural granite. Storm drainage, lighting and video surveillance will also be provided.
We plan to carry out the work without blocking traffic on the road, maintaining the movement of public transport, as well as organizing temporary ground pedestrian crossings synchronized with the traffic light facility at the intersection of Heroes of Sevastopol with Bagria Street,” noted deputy chief engineer of the contracting organization Konstantin Safonov.
In addition, for people with limited mobility, elevators will be provided on both sides of the road. The completion date for the work under the contract is November 2024, but the contractor plans to complete it by the summer, before the start of the tourist season.
Interestingly, there are only two underground pedestrian crossings in Sevastopol. The second one is on General Ostryakov Avenue, at the “7th Gymnasium” stop.
