As the head of the solar astronomy laboratory explains, scientists cannot make precise long-term forecasts regarding magnetic storms. The longest predictable period is 11 solar rotations or 27 days, but the accuracy here is not very high.

But the short-term forecast for several days has a fairly high reliability — up to 80 percent. Ultimately, everything is connected with the trajectory of solar plasma propagation— the specialist continues.

As for the influence of magnetic storms on the health of earthlings, according to the scientist, this aspect of the issue has not been fully studied. Existing studies on this topic were conducted quite a long time ago and, although they confirmed an increase in the number of heart attacks and strokes during periods of solar activity, this increase is insignificant and can be included within the framework of statistical error.
